Hand Crafted Tintypes

Justin Borucki loves sharing his passion for crafting these portraits by hand, right in front of people's eyes. It is truly an interactive and immersive experience.

Our pop-up is nothing short of magical. Using a beautiful antique camera and a 160-year-old chemical process, Borucki captures the portrait and develops it in a portable darkroom. As the image emerges from a cloud of silver, your guests can watch in awe.

With NYC Tintype, you're not merely hiring a photography service; you're delivering an unforgettable and enchanting experience to your event.

How Does It All Work?

Option A: Tintype Pop-Up Studio

Tintypes are meticulously handcrafted and typically take about 5-7 minutes each to create. On average, I can produce 8-11 tintypes per hour.

Guests eagerly queue for miles to receive complimentary tintypes! To manage wait times, we've devised various strategies for live tintype shooting at events. Tintype vouchers can be offered to VIPs or as incentives for early RSVPs. They can also be distributed randomly as door prizes or raffle winnings.

If time doesn't permit photographing all guests, we can provide gift certificates redeemable at our Brooklyn studio.

Option B: Shoot Digital, Make Tintypes After the Event In My Studio

This is a great choice, as all your guests will receive high-end, beautiful digital portraits. Tintypes can be ordered by your guests at a later date or given as a surprise holiday gift. These are actual tintypes created in the darkroom from the digital file back at my studio.

Options A and B can also be combined with one of my partnered digital photographers.

Lets Get The Conversation Started

What is a Tintype?

A tintype is made by an entirely handmade process with origins dating back to the 1850s. Metal plates are sensitized, exposed, and developed on-site using a portable darkroom. The image is made in silver and will last many generations.

If you haven’t already fallen in love with the tintype process you will after watching this video.

Who is Justin Borucki?

Family man first and a native New Yorker, amateur homesteader, artist and crafter obsessed with photography (hence, tintypes), and a maker of music portraits for nearly three decades.

By the way! Did you know Borucki photographed everyone from the Rolling Stones to Rihanna? Check out some of his work below.

I chose the digital/tintype package, and I was amazed by the results. The digital portraits rivaled Borucki’s famous music portraits. What made it even more special was surprising my guests with tintypes created from the digital files after the event. It was the perfect touch to make our event unforgettable.
